The story of Forever 21 continuesโฆ.a beautifully sad unplugged rendition AND a fire remix from Lenno is OUT NOW! This song means so much to me and I know how much it means to you so I just had to give you EVERYTHING ๐ฅ๐
Iโve always loved writing secretly dark songs disguised as sparkly pop anthems, and Forever 21 is a prime example of that. On the surface, itโs an easy summer banger about having a good time, but if you listen closely you can hear that itโs really just my attempt at downplaying my struggle with addiction before I finally got sober.
I believe that a great song will resonate with or without fancy production, acoustic, remixedโif it has a soul, it will shine through. What I didnโt expect was just how earnest and introspective this poptastic bop would feel completely stripped down.
Once I began arranging the naked vocals and delicate instruments, it was like uncovering a secret from my former self; like a hand written message in a long lost bottle whispering from the past, and it became an entirely new song for me.
Then when Lenno sent his remix, I got to experience it from another perspective; a breezy and refreshing approach that felt like eavesdropping on a drunk girl in a pool cabana passionately defending her right to party.
Reimagining this song was a cathartic exercise for me, and Iโm so excited to share these fresh takes!
XO,
Bonnie ๐ฅ๐
Brava! Magnificent. I've listened to Track 2, many many times today. It's pop perfection! Thanks for your vulnerability in the caption and throughout your artistry.
My favorites are the Unplugged, Sped Up and Acapella. Each version gives the song new life!
